Alcohol is 'empty calories'. There is no food value, vitamins or minerals in it whatsoever. Sure you can have a laugh on a girl’s night out making your way through a cocktail list but be clear that whatever you are consuming from the drink you are downing is not benefiting you in any way other than providing you with a giggle, possible lack of coordination and a hangover.
 
There are TWO key reasons why we suggest you monitor your alcohol limit and heed recommended levels:
  • Every single part of your body is made up of everything you have consumed over the last few years, from eyeballs to nails, (urgh) from heart to skin. Food containing vital vitamins, minerals, protein, carbohydrate and essential fats produce healthy bodies, clear skin and toned muscles. Excessive alcohol consumption won’t help you achieve any of this, it will do precisely the opposite.
 
  • Calorie consumption from alcohol is deceptive. One gram of alcohol contains 7kcals, compared to 4kcals for a gram of carbohydrate and protein (9kcals in a gram of fat). As noted above, substituting food calories for alcohol is a rubbish idea. Drinking instead of eating can have a negative effect on your body in many ways leading to poor muscle tone, bad skin and lack of concentration.
